Bath's first Christmas light switch on revealed

It's never too early to start planning ahead for Christmas The countdown to Christmas is already on in Oldfield Park as the date for the Moorland Road Christmas Light Switch on is revealed. Residents will welcome the start of the festive period by switching on the Moorland Road lights on November 25. Festivities begin at 2pm when Santa will arrive in style, giving out gifts for children aged eight and under.The lights will be switched on at 4.30pm, with over a thousand people expected to gather to watch. Will Sandry (Lib Dem, Oldfield Park) said: "It's a very well attended event. About 320 kids came to visit Santa last year. "We expect there will be over 1,000 people this year. It is a really big event." Mr Sandry also said there will be some new lights at this year’s switch on.The Bath Spa Brass Band will also make an appearance, getting residents in the Christmas spirit. Event organisers said on the Facebook event there will be "many more treats to come". However, it has not yet been revealed who will be pressing the button to light up the street. Moorland Road will be closed from 10am until 6pm while the festivities take place.
