It's not even Halloween yet! Londoners react to Oxford Street Christmas lights going up 84 days before December 25

Jaded Londoners bemoaned the start of the festive season after Oxford Street was decorated for Christmas almost three months before December 25. The familiar giant baubles that light up the shopping district every year were spotted being set up on October 2 – 84 days before Christmas Day. Some people were excited at the prospect of the holiday season being (almost) upon us. But many took to social media to warn of the ensuing “hell” of central London in Christmas time and point out that “it’s not even Halloween yet”. Workmen were spotted putting up the lights as early as October 2 and people began sharing pictures of them whilst riting of their disbelief. One person wrote "really Oxford Street?" whilst another tweeted "Christmas lights are up already. PREPARE FOR HELL!" Other, more enthusiastic, Londoners were thrilled to see some of the 750,000 bulbs being put up. But they will have to wait a little longer to see them at their finest. The lights won't be turned on until Novemver - when the street is usually closed off for an event marking the official start of the season.
