Some say it's not truly Christmas until the ad hits TV screens It has become a British institution over the past few years - the John Lewis Christmas advert - and like anything which captures the imagination, it also generates a lot of buzz. The festive season is now fast-approaching. So, with questions flying and speculation on Twitter mounting, when and what can we expect from this year's offering? Since 2009, John Lewis and its agency Adam & EveDDB have come up with increasingly rousing and polished adverts.Last year John Lewis released an upbeat Christmas ad featuring wild animals and a family dog larking about on a new trampoline, in a departure from the emotion-laden tearjerkers of recent years. It debuted on our screens on November 10 - a Thursday - meaning the corresponding date this year is November 9. Last year the store teased us with a 10-second clip accompanied by a mystery hashtag during a Sunday night episode of The X Factor. We're expecting a brilliant instalment for 2017. Last year the ad was set to a cover of Randy Crawford's 1980 jazz hit One Day I'll Fly Away by London electronic group Vaults, who recorded it at Abbey Road studios with a 70-strong choir and 66-piece orchestra.Needless to say, speculation is rife as to whether the music of one of the musician we've lost in 2016 will play a part. Each campaign has been beautifully accompanied by a cover version of a well-known song. 2011 saw The Smiths' 'Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want' covered, before Frankie Goes to Hollywood's 'The Power of Love' a year later.Lily Allen covered Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know' for The Bear and the Hare, while Tom Odell sang John Lennon's 'Real Love' for Monty the Penguin. In 2015, Scandinavian singer AURORA sang a cover of Oasis' hit 'Half the World Away'.
