Instead of fireworks, the shopping centre hosted a night of indoor festive performances, themed around the 12 Days of Christmas Christmas came early last night (November 9) at Bluewater with the arrival of its annual festive lights switch on event. But the big man in red didn't bring seasonal cheer to all who attended, as many took to social media to complain about a "lack of festive atmosphere". The centre normally holds a free fireworks display to celebrate the switch-on of the Christmas lights.Instead of fireworks, this year a night of indoor festive performances, themed around the 12 Days of Christmas, took place around the mall including comedy, dance, music and more. And some were less than impressed with the changes.Michal Tomas, who attended the switch on with his children, said: "I was terribly disappointed. "It's not quite the same without fireworks. "I must say, I've not been as disappointed with a switch on event in a long time."While Kay Ravenscourt added on Twitter: "Bored at Bluewater. "Where's the fireworks this year? "No festive atmosphere at all for the 'lights switch on'..."Some even remarked that the main event, which saw Heart Radio’s breakfast presenters James and Becky turned on the lights in Moon Court, was over and done with all too quickly."The way I went to Bluewater to watch the lights turn on and I went in and out of one shop and completey missed it," tweeted @laura_floodx. And Megan Meeke said: "Went to Bluewater purely to watch the Xmas lights turn on, completely missed it whilst eating Nandos."Bluewater also unveiled new decorations, that, according to the shopping centre "are more spectacular than ever before". And some were impressed with the switch on, despite the lack of pyrotechnics, saying their kids were "mesmerised" by the event. All the Christmas lights switch-ons A spokesman for Bluewater said: "To celebrate the launch of our new in mall festive decorations themed around the 12 Days of Christmas, our annual switch on event took place inside the centre."The 12 Days of Christmas theme was brought to life in mall with an evening of entertainment which included dance, music, comedy and a visit from Santa. "We always strive to create unique experiences at Bluewater and have lots of festive activities planned throughout the Christmas period." They did not clarify whether or not fireworks will return to the centre next year or explain why fireworks were not included in this year's event.
