They also tried to steal money and sweets off those who gave up their time Rebellious children have caused uproar after spitting, swearing and throwing cans at volunteers during a Santa sleigh ride procession. As part of the annual celebrations, Bridlington Round Table organised a festive event which saw Father Christmas tour the seaside town and give gifts to youngsters.

However, the magical event was "spoilt" by unruly youths who engaged in behaviour which cast a cloud over proceedings on Wednesday night.

.A statement on the group's Facebook page criticised the minority for their "stupidity," with some children even seen trying to steal money and sweets off volunteers on the night.

It said: "Thanks to everyone who came out to see Santa tonight. "Unfortunately the night was spoilt towards the end. It is not acceptable nor human behaviour to throw cans at our volunteers, nor is it to spit, swear and try to steal money and sweets off our volunteers; especially from the children committing the above. "Our volunteers do not do this to be abused in anyway and certainly do not expect it. When we have to put our children in the car for their safety it is a bad day." The Round Table said if the same behaviour is spotted again when Santa revisits tonight then the latter part of the route will have to be cut.

The group said: "We appreciate they are in the minority and it would be a shame if all the appreciative individuals had to miss out on Santa’s visit due to the stupidity of a few." The post saw a number of people support the group, with social media users blasting those responsible as "selfish," "disgusting" and "lowlife ****".
