Santa Claus is coming to town! Strathaven gets ready for Reindeer Day fun this weekend

The Allison Green in Strathaven will be packed for the annual festive celebration. Santa and his reindeer are set to take time out of their busy schedule to fly thousands of miles to visit the good boys and girls in Strathaven this weekend. The annual Reindeer Day comes to town this Sunday (December 10) as Santa and his sleigh visits the Common Green along with his trusty team.

They will touch down in Alison Green from 12noon to give everyone the chance to see the reindeer up-close. Father Christmas will then travel through the streets of the town with a parade around the Common Green, which will get underway at 2pm. Youngsters can visit Santa in his grotto on Allison Green before or after the parade.

There will also be a mix of market stalls selling Christmas treats as well as some fun rides for the kids, and entertainment for all the family squeezed into the Green.

The town will be busy on Sunday with hundreds turning out every year, so organisers are encouraging visitors to make sure you arrive in plenty of time. They also ask that you avoid parking on the parade route around Green Street and Waterside Street.

A spokesman said: “The reindeer are still building up to full flying speed for Christmas, so please don’t block the way! They added: “It’s always a great day out, and big crowds are expected once again for what has become one of Strathaven’s biggest events of the year.” If you would like more information or to ask any questions about the day visit the Strathaven Reindeer Day Facebook page.
