COLCHESTER High Street welcomed was closed as thousands of shoppers who turned out to enjoy a Christmas- themed food market. Food, drink and craft stalls lined the streets for the event yesterday, with the road closed for the day.

Organiser Don Quinn said it was a hugely successful day and showed how much the people of Colchester supported its events. He said: “It went really great. The road was full of lovely people having a wonderful time. It was fantastic to see. “Everytime we do an event like this people respond and pack out the High Street without fail.

As well as 60 stalls offering various types of food and drink, there was a fairground at one end of the High Street and plenty of entertainment to keep visitors of all ages entertained. There was also the return of the traditional bun hurling. Two hundred tasty treats were thrown into the crowd, with 20 of them adorned with a golden star. Anyone who caught one of the winning treats was able to swap it for a bag of chocolate coins. Mr Quinn added: “It has been a fantastic effort from everybody involved to put on a wonderful event yet again.” "You couldn’t ask for more.”
